Those of you doing a fast track exam - passed a classification in November and taking the next one up - will be asked to give the full details of their project including hour sheets this Tuesday so should have them to hand.

Thursday 18th March

Tuesday 16th March 

  • Sports Kit (Shorts, Sports Top, Trainers) - Those taking part in the 5-a-side football should also bring a tracksuit, as they may have an opportunity to practice outside

 

Thursday 11th March 

  • DPMs - Junior Cadet's No.2s/White shirt, Black trousers, black shoes
  • The night will be run by Sgt Herring who has a planned activity that will run throughout the night. 

 

Tuesday 9th March - EXAM NIGHT

  • No.2 Uniform
  • All cadets should arrive at 18:45, with a black ball-point pen for the exam.

 

Thursday 4th March

  • No.2 Uniform
  • CWO Chandler will be in the squadron from 18:30 to help anyone doing their Leading examinations and has a lesson on Principles of Flight to give if the U/T Leading cadets can make it in early.
  • The whole night will be dedicated to revision for the exams on tuesday. Mock papers will be issued in the first half for your chosen subjects. For U/T Leading cadets this will be Basic Navigation, Airmanship II and Principles of Flight. For U/T Senior and Staff cadets this will be either the ones they got Partial passes on or the new subjects they have picked up.

 

Tuesday 2nd March

  • No.2 Uniform with creases as sharp as razors and toe-caps as shiny as stars...
  • Junior Cadets without Uniform - Black Trousers, White shirt, black shoes and a black belt is your uniform, nice and smart please.
  • C.I. Carter will be doing a presentation on his Civilian job as a helicopter pilot to the squadron.
  • Exam Revision and Lessons will be taking place, with Flt. Lt. Banks taking the Leading under training cadets for Airmanship II, Senior and Staff under training will be self-revising with help on hand as always fo any questions they may have, C.I. Carter has offered to help those taking both Air Navigation and Pilot Navigation with their studies. First Class will go ahead as programmed by the Junior Cadet Flight NCO Cpl Bluck.
  • The squadron is being used by wing staff for a number of meetings during the night and we ask all cadets to be on extra high alert to the increased presence of ATC staff. The meetings will take place in the end classroom and as such this will be off limits after first parade to all cadets.
 
Annual Camps, The Overlord March and Leadership course deadlines are all closing in, could all interested cadets please see that they have their names registered on the board as application forms will be going out imminently - C.W.O Chandler

 

Thursday 25th February 

  • No.2 Uniform - Well pressed, Highly polished...
  • Recruits Night - Run separately by Cpl Bluck & Snr. Cdt Smith - The option is there for new recruits to take part in the presentations alongside enrolled cadets as shown below.
  • 2 x Presentations - "Air Power - The Importance of Air Superiority" and "The Future of the R.A.F" will be given by CWO Chandler in one of the second half of the night. These will be active presentations with the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about Air Power or the application procedure to join the Royal Air Force.
  • Drill + Exam Revision - Bring Revision materials. First Class and Leading under training will receive lessons, Senior and Staff are to self study their two chosen subjects. Exams are in early March
  • Other activities will be taking place throughout the night.

Tuesday 16th February

 

  • Exercise taking place in Abbots Wood. Cadets should arrive at 18:40 for pickup between 21:00 - 21:15.
  • Cadets should bring all items listed on the kit list given to them on Thursday. Those who did not attend should scroll down this page for a basic kit list. Failure to bring any of the said items will mean that you will have to turn around and go home as all of them are vital.

Those who have volunteered to come and help with the Lees Trophy project on tuesday should arrive on squadron at 10:00am and should wear civilian clothes. 

 

Thursday 11th February

 

  • Abbots Wood Exercise brief - Information relating to the exercise taking place in abbots wood along the A22, followed by a presentation along with practice in field movements and formations.
  • DPM Uniform including Smock - Junior Cadets may have the oppurtunity to loan DPM uniform for stores. There are 3 pieces of uniform each has a £5 deposit required. Therefore £15 should be brought in if you require the whole uniform - subject to availability.
Due to the lateness of this post we instead ask that all cadets instead bring a CHECK-LIST with them identifying what they have from this list and what they need out of stores or still need to acquire: 
  1. Full DPM's including: Assault Boots, Thick socks, '95 Trousers, '95 Shirt, Smock, Green t-shirt, Beret
  2. Waterproof top and bottoms (Preferably Camouflage)
  3. Gloves, Scarf, Warm hat
  4. Minimum of a 30L bag (The size of a standard school rucksack)
  5. Spare Clothing.
  6. Emergency Rations (High energy foods)
  7. Water bottle 1L minimum
  8. Torch
  9. First Aid Kit
  10. Survival Bag
You may also wish to bring a scrim scarf, and Camo paint.

 

Tuesday 9th February

 

 

  • Exam Preperation, inc. Self Study + revision material handouts such as past papers and revision notes. 
  • First Class and Leading under training to be given syllabus lessons, bring notepads and a pen.
  • CWO Chandler and FS Grimson to plan Exercise for Abbots wood and prepare brief with CI Wood.
  • No.2 Uniform - Those without DPM uniform for thursday should bring in a £5 deposit per item of uniform they need. Subject to availability they will have the chance to attain the uniform.

 

 

Thursday 4th February

 

  • Exam Preparation for Leading, Senior and Staff under training. The first half will be dedicated to revision, the second half will be open for cadets to look at past papers and ask any questions to the SNCO overseeing the revision session.
  • First Class cadets will be given lessons on their first class syllabus.
  • Junior Cadets will continue the Jnr Cdt programme looking further into basic drill, and the squadron presentations.
  • No.2 Uniform - Under Training senior and staff cadets should bring their own folders for handouts.

 

 

Tuesday 2nd February

Warrant Officer Cordell, the Wing Warrant Officer (WWO), has unfortunately had to re-arrange his visit to the squadron till March. Therefore the following Night has been planned:

 

  • Projects - FS Grimson, the squadron Project Officer, will be running a project night with planned key projects taking place such as the shooting wall and new projects being introduced which can be used towards your exam project hours. (Exams March 2010)

  • No.3 DPM dress - This includes your DPM smock, if you do not already have a smock a £5 deposit can be exchanged for use of a smock in stores by speaking to the stores NCO - Cpl. Coates. 'Air Cadet' Flashes should be sewn on to your DPM shirt as follows:

  1. The rectangular 'AIR CADETS' badge should be sewn centrally directly above the breast pocket (No Gap)
  2. The more square 'aircadets/royal air force' flash should be sewn centrally on the right arm, the spacing down should be made by taking one badge length from the shoulder seam and using the bottom line as a mark for where the top of the flash should be sewn.

CWO Chandler - 249 Training Officer
