Justin is climbing high
CI Justin Baker has just returned from the National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre in the heart of the Lake District National park, where he has just completed and passed his Mountain Leader Summer assessment. Due to the harsh and unpredictable weather, the UK is home to some of the most remote and difficult mountains to climb, especially for novices. The ML courses develops group management skills, the ability to navigate in all conditions, the ability to deal with mountain hazards (including steep ground), it also increases awareness of environmental issues.
Justin had to take part in a night navigation exercise and a three day expedition across the hills. He also had to demonstrate the ability to move with the group on difficult terrain including scree, narrow ridges and steep broken ground using appropriate techniques. 249 (Hailsham) Squadron is very please that Justin has passed, this adds to the ever growing adventure training qualifications that staff in the unit hold, enabling the cadets to enjoy more outdoor adventures.
