Remembrance Sunday

HAILSHAM fell silent with the rest of the Country at 11am on Sunday to mark the sacrifices that so many have made with their lives in both World Wars and more recent conflicts.

Despite the wet and cold weather, hundreds of people gathered at the Hailsham war memorial in the centre of Town to listen to the immortal lines of the act of remembrance, ‘we will remember them’.  249 Squadron took part in a short parade from the car park next to the Charles Hunt Centre in Vicarage Field and preceded the annual Remembrance Day service at the war memorial. Local dignitaries, including Mayor Cllr Robin Kemp, laid wreaths while the Rev David Bourne and the local Royal British Legion's branch chairman Mike Weller spoke. 249 Squadrons Commanding Officer,  Flt Lt Neil Banks said “ the two-minutes silence was impeccably observed and it was very moving,  It was also very encouraging to see so many  young people at the War Memorial “.
